The Days of the Female Blackbird!

Bruno Rosso's photo of Venice in the snow, 1951.
The last three days of January, or the last two days of January and the first day  of February, are supposed to be the coldest of the year in Italy. They are known as i giorni della merla (the days of the female blackbird).

According to tradition, if the weather is indeed cold,  it is thought to be a good sign that the following spring will be radiant. If, however, the three days are warmer than usual, the arrival of spring will be delayed.

This year the forecast for the giorni della merla is that the weather will be very cold with the prospect of snow, even on low groundI am now looking forward to a radiant spring.
