Plaque to Claudio Monteverdi, Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Venice
On this day, in the year 1643, the great Baroque composer Claudio Monteverdi died. He was seventy-six years old.

Originally from Cremona, Monteverdi had been the maestro di cappella at the Basilica San Marco for the last thirty years of his life.

The composer is buried in the Chapel of the Milanesi, which is located in the church of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. A plain slab in the middle of the chapel marks the spot where he lies, along with fellow members of the Scuola dei Milanesi
